Rabbi Ephraim Z. Buchwald, Director of Jewish Treats’ parent organization, the National Jewish Outreach Program, tells a story from Rav Carlebach about a couple that he met at one of his concerts. He noticed that the couple cried throughout the concert, during both happy and sad songs. The couple met Rav Carlebach after the show and explained that they had once considered themselves atheists. They’d tried for years to conceive a child and one day made a promise to God that if he granted them a child they would become religious. By the time Rav Carlebach met them they were observant Jews with three children. This is one of the many great stories that Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach was known to tell. May his memory be a blessing.
