From the Album ‘Yankel Yankel’ by Avraham Fried See also may videos and playlists on yossinachman’s Channel: www.youtube.com Yiddish Medley: 1) Rateveh: A Russian-Chassidic ballad of a Jew calling out for help as he is sinking at sea. 2) Yankel, Yankel: This niggun proclaims: have no fear, hope to Hashem… 3) Oy Di Velt: This song is set to the adage of Rabbi Nachman of Breslev: The world is a narrow bridge and the main thing is to have no fear. 4) Ober Ah Malleh: From the Sukkot prayers wherein we count the virtues of the Jewish people. ‘Yankel Yankel’ CD: www.jewishjukebox.com www.cdbaby.com www.mostlymusic.com www.israel-music.com de.israel-music.com he.israel-music.com www.cduniverse.com www.amazon.com www.amazon.co.uk www.amazon.de GENERAL, REVIEWS — BY HISLAHAVUS ON JUNE 12, 2009: jewishmusicreport.com (…) (****) Track 4 — Yiddish Medley: Avremi G. did a great job with the medleys on this album. They are, for the most part, seamless and natural, and don’t get boring. There’s a certain progression that you feel building up, rather than a bunch of songs almost randomly tossed together — as on so many albums. This album has a funny quirk in that its lead song is just one number in a medley (not even the first!) — I don’t think that has ever happened before! Fohrt a Yiddeleh: Before anyone has a heart attack on the message here, read the liner notes! Lubavitcher niggunim have many cryptic messages (how about all the songs about vodka, for starters), so don’t think …

This video features clips from my NEW REMIXED & EXTENDED ALBUM, “The Klezmer Fiddle” – available from iTunes, Amazon MP3 Store & www.cdbaby.com by about July 2010. The existing 10 track album of the same title is still on iTunes until the release of this 17 track album, masterfully remixed by Dominik Johnson… This album is my attempt to recreate the wonderful sounds of the traditional Jewish Klezmer fiddle, which once wafted through the many Shtetls of Eastern Europe, prior to the ravages wrought on Eastern European Jewish musical culture by the Holocaust. The rather rustic “rough edges” in my fiddle playing, (which the classically trained violinist will no doubt detect), is simply a consequence of the fact that I am totally self-taught – just like most of the Klezmer musicians of the Shtetls of old Eastern Europe, I never had either the money or the opportunity to take violin lessons. In my opinion, folk music played by a classically trained violinist, simply no longer sounds like authentic folk music… Above all the musical styles which influenced the traditional Klezmer musicians of Eastern Europe, the Romanian influence seems to be the strongest and most enduring. This fact is reflected in the dance forms found throughout the entire surviving Klezmer music repertoire, eg Horas, Doinas, Bulgars etc. I have also featured examples of such piece on the album, for example “Odessa Bulgar” (track9), “Yiddish Hora” (track 4) & “Oriental Hora” (track 3). This influence on …
